The Valley Guild, a completely volunteer organization, was formed in 1973 with the specific purpose of purchasing, renovating and maintaining the childhood home of Pulitzer and Nobel Prize-winning author, John Steinbeck. The Mission continues to this day. The House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, The National Steinbeck Center and the Oldtown Salinas Association.
