Birdies for Charity
15% MATCH ON $ RAISED!
Birdies for Charity (BFC) is an exciting opportunity for charities to raise money through the 2012 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tournament. Hosted by Monterey Peninsula Foundation (MPF), BFC is a fundraising program geared towards raising thousands of additional dollars for Northern California charities.
Charities have collectively raised over $725,000 in the program’s four year history.
The Pledge Drive and Matching Funds
Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations are invited to involve their communities in a pledge drive, similar to a walk-a-thon, based on the total number of birdies made by PGA TOUR professionals during the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Charities solicit donors to pledge an amount per birdie or a flat donation. MPF administers the program and covers all associated costs including pledge forms, prizes, and collecting donations. 100% of collected pledges go directly to the soliciting charity with an additional 15% match.
AND…
- MPF hosts a webpage that allows donors to pledge online.
- Participating charities are listed, with links, on the tournament website and in the program.
- Top four earning charities are eligible to host the BFC exhibition booth for one day during tournament week.
Guess the Birdies Contest
Each pledge form offers donors a chance to guess the total number of birdies that will be made during the tournament. The lucky person who guesses correctly will win the grand prize of two United Airline tickets and a one night stay at The Inn at Spanish Bay and golf for two at The Links at Spanish Bay.
Charity Shoot-Out
Participating charities are invited to compete in a closest-to-the pin competition to earn the opportunity to be represented by one of the teams – the San Francisco 49ers or San Francisco Giants in the exciting Charity Shoot-Out on February 7, 2012, and earn up to $50,000 additional money.

Birdies for Charity Testimonials
“Participating in the Birdies for Charity Shoot-Out not only netted my organization $4,000 but it provided a wonderful experience for the high school golfer that represented us. She had never heard about Meals on Wheels before and now she knows how valuable it is and she can let her peers know.”
Cindy Houts, Executive Director, Alameda County Meals on Wheels
“We’re so happy to be part of this wonderful program. Thank you for making this a success.”
Cathy Conway, Director of Development, Hospice of Santa Cruz County
“Birdies for Charity is a wonderful event. You generate so much exposure for your organization from the website. It allows you to expand your charity network. The Guess the Birdies concept is fun and exposes people to the game of golf.”
Preston Pinkney, Director, Ace Kids Golf, Oakland, CA
“Many foundations encourage sustainability, but few take an active role in helping nonprofits achieve their fundraising goals. Through Birdies for Charity, Monterey Peninsula Foundation demonstrates its commitment to being a true partner in philanthropy.”
